History
FENLAND LAUNDRIES LTD
The Skegness Steam Laundry was established in 1883 shortly after the railhead reached the town. It provided a service to the local landed gentry, the general populace and particularly to the hotels and boarding houses which were rapidly being built in the area.
During the 1970's the Company changed from being generalist suppliers of laundry services to become specialist suppliers of clean garments to the food processing and manufacturing industry and suppliers of table linen to the region's hotels and restaurants.
MICRONCLEAN
Responding to interest from the highly demanding pharmaceutical and micro electronics industries, in 1981 Fenland designed a processing system for garments which were to be worn in Class 10 (ISO 4) and Class 100 (ISO 5) Cleanrooms. The processing principle was patented and now three plants trading as Micronclean (two owned by Fenland) provide this specialised cleanroom service to customers across the whole of mainland Britain.
In 1989 a new barrier laundry was opened at Grantham. This laundry was updated in 1994 to Cleanroom Class L standards to provide a cost effective service for Class 10,000 (ISO 7) to 100,000 (ISO 8) users in the microelectronics and pharmaceutical areas not requiring full Cleanroom decontamination.
In September 1987 the Company became the first laundry to obtain adherence to the Quality System BS 5750 (now BS EN ISO 9001:2000) for its process and garment rental operation.
In February 1997 a brand new cleanroom laundry was opened in Skegness showing Micronclean's commitment to the cleanroom industry. This ISO 4 (GMP 'B') cleanroom laundry uses a high purity Reverse Osmosis water system and has a full computerised tracking system.
In April 2003 a state of the art facility was opened in Louth (validated to ISO 7 in early 2004), to support intermediate grade cleanroom requirements for applications such as Pharmaceutical tableting and non-sterile production.
In late 2005 Micronclean further invested in a specialised ISO 5
wipes production unit at it's Skegness headquarters. This facility enables the safe cleanroom packaging of alcohol impregnated
wipes.
In the Autumn of 2006 Micronclean formally acquired Initial Workwear's cleanroom customers due to the planned closure of this aspect of Initial's business. Micronclean successfully integrated these customers into the existing infrastructure.
